Discussion Forum: Russian- Ukraine War and the Quest for Global Stability Regime

The ongoing Russian-Ukraine War is a landmark event that is bringing tectonic shifts in world politics. In the past few months, the diplomatic standoff between the European powers and Russia has intensified. There has also been a humanitarian catastrophe unfolding- with widespread civilian casualties and growing food insecurity. Within this context, countries such as India, Israel and Turkey are playing a crucial role among the world powers in the resolution of the crisis. Usanas Foundation has brought together speakers and experts from the countries of India, Israel and Turkey as well as USA and Russia as key stakeholders in this conflict.

The Russian-Ukraine War has exposed new fault lines in the contours of world politics. The emerging global order is progressing towards ‘multipolarity.’ Multiple powers are playing a decisive role in world politics. Considering this, it is important to find a structural basis to an emergent global order to achieve a degree of stability and mitigate anarchy and instability. The ongoing conflict has demonstrated that much like the failure of the League of Nations - the present multilateral institutions have proven to be ineffective in containing military aggression and humanitarian catastrophes. In this light, it becomes imperative to deliberate on the nature of the emergent global order. This session organized by Usanas Foundation will address these issues as well.

Through the deliberations of the speakers and experts from these countries, the session aims to generate key insights that provide a roadmap towards peaceful resolution of the conflict. The session aims to enrich students of International Relations by providing exposure in how diplomatic negotiations are conducted. The session will emulate the form of a ‘Track-II’ dialogue which aims to provide key inputs to serving officials, diplomats of government bodies’ strategies on peaceful negotiation practices and a framework for the resolution of the ongoing conflict.
