Mr Krishan Varma is a former Director Aviation Research Centre and Special Secretary to the Government of India, Cabinet Secretariat. During an illustrious career spanning 35 years, he held several key appointments within the country and abroad. He held sensitive assignments in politically and socially fragile militancy affected border regions of J&K and India’s Northeast. His diplomatic assignments include postings to countries in South Asia, East Asia and the USA. His areas of specialization are China, the Far East, Koreas, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific and Indian Ocean Region. He has practical experience in dealing with multifaceted security challenges, international terrorism and global issues pertaining to energy security, trade and commerce, science and technology. He is the recipient of awards for Distinguished and Meritorious Service from the Prime Minister of India. Mr Varma currently serves on the Board and in an Advisory capacity to several corporate entities in the field of defence, cyber security, nuclear energy, finance and think tanks dealing with China and international security issues. His articles appear regularly in the mainstream media and he is frequently invited to speak at government and private think tank events. He is an Eminent Resource Faculty at the Rashtriya Raksha University (Central University and Institution of National Importance) Visiting Fellow, Chennai Centre for China Studies Member, Advisory Board, Global Counter Terrorism Council Trustee, Foundation of Non violent Alternatives, a non-profit organization dealing with research and academic studies on Tibet Advisor, Impulse NGO Network an international NGO dealing with anti-human trafficking at the transnational level.
